Creek House Stabilization In Ironton

TLR Board Member Steve Boyle reports that on October 10, 2024, TLR volunteers completed the work on the Creek House at the Ironton Townsite to stabilize the building and keep it upright to counteract a rotting wooden foundation in the 130+ year-old building.

Steve writes “we had a fine weather day and several great volunteers.  Thanks to Mike Nadiak for helping me get materials hauled the day before.  Michael Pelkey, Gary Roberts, Jenny Hart, and Mike and Heidi Nadiak worked on site with me on Thursday and we got the job done, and Bob Risch stopped by too.  A special thank you to Michael Pelkey who spent a lot of advance time with me thinking and planning, brought a slug of tools, worked the hardest on Thursday, and used the most bandaids.  Well done Michael!”

The project was done for $512 in materials, within the $1,000 budgeted funds available from the Ouray County Historical Society via a grant from the Frank L. Massard Trust.

The temporary stabilization should hold the building upright for at least several years, until some organization can plan, fund, and execute permanent stabilization which would likely include foundation work and straightening and bracing the building.
